FRED KEELING — Forwards Coach
Fred is a New Zealand native with 35 years of rugby experience, playing as a hooker and loose forward. Besides competing in his native New Zealand, he has played rugby internationally in Canada, England, Australia, and Wales. After moving to Michigan, Fred still wanted to be involved in rugby so he helped the Washtenaw High School Boys Rugby Club as the forward coach for 7 years. He is also currently a Michigan and Midwest referee and is always helpful when there are questions regarding the rules and laws of rugby.
Stuart Roche- Strength and Conditioning Trainer
Originally from Stamford, England, and having either played or coached rugby for the past 14 years, Coach Roche brings with him a wealth of experience. As the head S&C coach, Roche designs, implements and develops all aspects of the year-round UMWRFC strength and conditioning program. He is accredited as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and also holds the Sports Performance certification from USA Weightlifting (USAW).
Coach Roche currently works as a published research specialist in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Michigan’s Biomedical Science Research Building. In the near future, Roche hopes to enroll in a graduate degree in exercise physiology and continue to develop as a strength and conditioning professional through a collegiate graduate assistantship.
KELLY McMAHON — Forwards Coach
Kelly is a Michigan Rugby alumna and is currently a PhD student at the University of Michigan School of Education. After playing at Michigan, Kelly played as a loose forward for the New York Women’s Rugby Club, including winning two National Championships (’06, ’09) and participated on the Midwest (’00) and Northeast (’01-’09) select side teams. Kelly also played on the USA Women’s National Rugby Team and played in the 2006 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
