Herb has been the head coach of Michigan Women’s Rugby since 2007. Under Herb’s coaching Michigan has achieved two consecutive undefeated league seasons (’08, ’09) and two consecutive DI Midwest Eastern Conference Championships (’09, ’10) and the Midwest Championship in 2010. Herb has 11 years combined coaching experience in men and women’s rugby and 20 years of playing experience. He played prop and hooker on various teams such as Western Washington Univ., in New Zealand, and Belmont Shore including winning 3 USA Super League titles.
Fred is a New Zealand native with 35 years of rugby experience, playing as a hooker and loose forward. Besides competing in his native New Zealand, he has played rugby internationally in Canada, England, Australia, and Wales. After moving to Michigan, Fred still wanted to be involved in rugby so he helped the Washtenaw High School Boys Rugby Club as the forward coach for 7 years. He is also currently a Michigan and Midwest referee and is always helpful when there are questions regarding the rules and laws of rugby.
Kelly is a Michigan Rugby alumna and is currently a PhD student at the University of Michigan School of Education. After playing at Michigan, Kelly played as a loose forward for the New York Women’s Rugby Club, including winning two National Championships (’06, ’09) and participated on the Midwest (’00) and Northeast (’01-’09) select side teams. Kelly also played on the USA Women’s National Rugby Team and played in the 2006 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
